Reason Project vs. Truth Project

This morning VJack over at the Atheist Revolution just posted about Sam Harris’ “Reason Project“. As I’m sure you can tell, we here at Think: Reason fully support the Reason Project. (Side note, if you’re not subscribed to The Atheist Revolution, you should be. It’s a great blog.)
I think that the Reason Project is a noble cause, but it’s going to have to complete with the likes of groups on the other spectrum like, “The Truth Project” which is sponsored by Focus on the Family run by Dr. James Dobson. The Dr. (sociology, not medical) James Dobson preaches wonderful things like:
“One of the problems with sex education… is that it also strips kids -- especially girls -- of their modesty to have every detail of anatomy, physiology and condom usage made explicit.”
Right… cause we don’t want young women to be educated about sex, protecting them from disease and unwanted pregnancy… It’s better that they’re “modest”.
His project should be called the mis-truth project because that’s all it is. Check out the pic on the right. He’s trying to use the church to indoctrinate people into his world view by trying to re-write history. I know because I read the syllabus given to my grandmother by her church who sponsor’s his cause and reteaches his doctrine.
It’s going to be hard to complete with a group that has tax free franchises (churches) setup all across the country with a base of people who feel it is their obligation to repeat these mis-truths. Mis-truths specifically designed to fool people into believing that this country was not found on secular values, but Christian.
We do have one thing on our side though… Logic.
Video after the break.
